Two buses will run, one from the Syracuse area and one from the Oneonta/Binghamton area.  It may seem a little early for this notification, but seating is limited and always runs out, so I wanted our members to have the advantage of ordering as soon as announced.  So the link below for complete information.

BREAT CANCER AWARENESS MONTH – CO PATCHES AND NON-CO LANYARDS

UCS has once again authorized our Court Officers to wear pink-themed Breast Cancer Awareness patches for the month of October.  As a strong supporter of this cause, we have ordered a limited supply of these patches for interested Court Officers for those members that will actually utilize the “pink” themed patches, which will be distributed on a first-come basis.  Please, do not request a patch if you are not going to wear it on your uniform and just put it in a drawer somewhere.  Let those who will wear the patch receive it (while supplies last) and wear it proudly in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I would request that one person per facility or county or court (depending on the size of your facility/county/court) ask their fellow officers if they would like a patch and then contact me, don@csealocal334.com, or for Broome, Tioga, Chemung, Chenango and Delaware counties, contact Tammy Witteman, twittema@nycourts.gov or 607-240-5801, with the following information:  Your name, mailing address, number of patches requested, who you are requesting the patches for (CO names).  This is to avoid having to mail out “ten” different mailings to the same court/location and so that we have documentation as to who has already received a patch.

If you already received a patch in the past and/or wish to purchase additional patches, you may order them at cost at $2 per patch.  Contact me for details.  We hear our order will arrive tomorrow, 9/27.  We will mail out the patches as quickly as we possible.

A reminder that all uniformed personnel must remove the patch and replace it with the regular CO patch by November 1st.

LANYARDS:  The Local has also purchased Breast Cancer Awareness Lanyards for non-CO personnel and have distributed them in past years.  Similar to the Court Officers, we would ask one person in facility or county or court get together a list of people that would like a lanyard and send me that information OR for Broome, Tioga, Chemung, Chenango and Delaware counties, contact Tammy at 607-240-5801 or twittema@nycourts.gov.  The contact person should include their name, mailing address, number of lanyards to be sent and a list of who is going to receive a lanyard.

Thank you to our volunteers for helping out with this distribution process!

NEW EMPLOYEES

Receivers, thank you for continuing to distribute notices in your work locations.  Please be certain to keep an eye out for new employees and add them to your distribution list.  Members, it is important for you to encourage new employees to sign up for membership online at www.cseany.org.  It is quick, easy, secure, and the new employee will get an instant confirmation via email that their application has been submitted.  Those employees that are non-members are basically letting you carry them when you pay your dues and they are taking advantage of the contract, benefits and protections that your dues dollars have gone to create and maintain.  We are very proud of our 99+% membership rate in this Local, and in order to keep our Union strong, we need these new employees to join our numbers.  If you have any question as to whether or not a new employee his signed up, please let me know.

UNION DUES DEDUCTION ERROR

CSEA has been informed that as a result of a mistake made by the State Comptroller’s office, there may be an error in the 9/18/19 paycheck regarding dues deductions.  Anyone that has had extra dues taken from their 9/18/19 paycheck will see a correction of the error in the 10/16/19 paycheck.  It is our understanding most variances in the dues deduction should amount to less than a dollar and that this did not affect all employees.

NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION BOOKLET

Many of us either never attended a new employee orientation (us “seasoned” employees) because no such thing existed or others attended a new employee orientation many, many years ago.  In the last year, CSEA has produced a New Employee Orientation guide in digital format that we now send out to new employees prior to an orientation.  It is attached here for your information.  You’re urged to take a look through the pamphlet on your own time to make sure you are aware of the benefits that you’re entitled to as a member, benefits that put money back in your pocket and/or save you and your family money.  You probably know that CSEA and the Local provide scholarship opportunities, but did you know that AFSCME also provides numerous scholarships (due by end of calendar year)?  Are you aware that you and your family are entitled to a free online two-year degree in over a dozen categories?  Did you know you have access to discounts at the YMCA, Orlando Vacations, Goodyear Tire discounts, Driver Safety Program (discount on auto insurance), Mortgage programs, discount on your cell service with AT&T (and more)?  Take a few minutes to look through the attached booklet to learn more. (Note:  The file is too large to post on the website, so if you would like a copy, email me at don@csealocal334.com.)
